\u03b1-Arbutin (also known as Arbutin) is primarily extracted from the leaves of the bearberry plant (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi). It rapidly penetrates the skin without compromising cell integrity, then binds to tyrosinase\u2014the key enzyme in melanin production\u2014effectively inhibiting its activity. This suppresses melanin synthesis while also accelerating melanin breakdown and elimination. Additionally, Arbutin helps protect the skin from free radical damage.
