Phenoxyethanol is a glycol ether formed from ethanol and phenolic groups. It is widely used as a preservative in cosmetics and skincare products such as creams and lotions. Its preservation effect comes from its broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, effectively inhibiting or eliminating Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, including E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
